Wednesday Night Bible Fellowships meet from 6:30-8:00pm each week. There is a parent/sponsor meeting after every quarterly potluck. We will discuss upcoming youth events and issues. Please feel free to call me anytime if you have questions about our ministry plans and programs.
We are tracking each students participation and they can put the money they earn toward the Youth Mission Trip, White Oak camp or C.I.Y. conference. Students currently in 8-12th grade are eligible to participate. There may be limits on how many can participate in each fundraiser. Sign up sheets will be available in SS class for students to sign up to participate.
Pearlington, MS Tentative Dates: May 25 to June 2. On the Jan. 22nd deadline, students currently in grade 9-12 will commit to monthly group meetings, memory work and teamwork in order to travel to Pearlington, MS, Lord willing, to do both service projects and lead a VBS in the name of Jesus. The purpose of our mission trips is to expand the worldview of our students and encourage them to be involved in evangelism and service in Gods Kingdom world-wide. It is also a chance for them to use their gifts and develop leadership skills as they work together as a ministry team.
We attend both N.Y.R. and C.I.Y. conference. We alternate every other year so that students have the opportunity to experience both. Each conference offers different opportunities for fellowship, discipleship, evangelism, and worship. I believe that both conferences are valuable in different ways. Some students may like one better than another. That is fine. But I encourage you to send your child to both. They may find they like one more than they expected, and it may challenge them in ways they wouldnt experience otherwise.. We hope to attend Michigan if possible so that Gods beautiful creation is an additional backdrop for our time together. We invite students entering 9-12th grade to attend NYR/CIY summer conferences. This is intentionally done to facilitate building leadership and friendship bonds among those who will be in our youth ministry in the upcoming school year. A new idea we are considering is to include select graduated seniors on this trip. In order to reward those students who stay active and involved all through their high school years, we will include them as student leaders.
Road trips are often times the best opportunity to make memories and friendship bonds with other Christians in the youth group. So, plan ahead for your child to go on one or two of these each school year if possible. Students who go on these trips are more likely to be involved in the body life of the church and not fall away after high school graduation. One way we encourage personal interaction is by not allowing cell phones, MP3 players, Ipods (anything with headphones), or electronic hand-held games. Even novels and magazines are discouraged so that students are more likely to talk with one another while we travel. Also, since CCCB events do NOT involve a road trip, we will try to plan a way to make a group memory before or after the event (e.g. dinner together, campfire at WOCC, etc.)
This is a highly recommended option for high school students who want to grow deeper in Christ. Read the following if your child is interested. Purpose: To share life together in order to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ as we strive to be His disciples. Through a small, united support group we will work at building our commitment to Christ, the church, each other and the ministry that God gives us. One adult will meet with 3-4 same gender students.. D-group Plan:
Commitment: In order to accomplish the purpose and plan, we ask students involved with D-groups to commit to regular attendance. This regular D-group attendance is necessary to develop unity and trust as the semester progresses. This is also why we try to keep the students in the same group all year. This is not a group open to random students that pop in and out of groups from month to month. This may seem exclusive, but any changes in group dynamic disrupts the trust building process that is necessary for the group to accomplish its purpose. Please support your childs spiritual growth by encouraging them to keep this commitment for the entire school year. And if your childs schedule does not allow for him/her to attend D-group regularly, then help them understand that it is not that they arent loved and wanted, but D-group just doesnt work if they only show up occasionally.
White Oak Christian Camp is an excellent program close to home where a student can still have the quality time with Christian friends away from the distractions of the world in a fun positive atmosphere. Students often make life-changing decisions because of time away at camp when they are challenged with Gods Word and encouraged by faculty and friends. The $120 registration fee covers Sunday afternoon through Friday morning programming, meals, housing, speakers, band, and recreation activities. If you pre-register by the May 13th earlybird date, registration drops to $100. See camp dates on the calendar above. If a student desires to be a teen helper, they must attend the Youth Orientation Weekend. The Cooks and Deans will then recruit students to be helpers for camp. For Dean Helper, students have to be two years older than the campers, be an active Christian for at least one year and attend YOW. For Cook helper, students have to be an active Christian and attend YOW.
Each quarter there is an all-church potluck dinner after which parents and sponsors are invited to a meeting where the upcoming youth events and programming are discussed. This is a time of planning, preparing and training as it relates to our ministry to students. If you have a concern or complaint, however, the parent/sponsor meeting is not the place to bring it up. You should talk with the youth minister and make sure you understand one another regarding your concerns. The high school youth worship band leads worship for various area youth events and occasionally for Sunday morning services. The purpose of this ministry is to glorify Christ through the use and development of musical gifts and working together as a team. The try-outs are held at the beginning of each semester for the purpose of including students who want to be involved, as well as to make sure that those involved are skilled enough to be a positive contribution to the band. Because they are leading up front publicly and representing Christ and TLCC from a stage, we expect a higher standard of behavior, musical skill and involvement with Timber Lake Christian Church. The junior high worship band S.A.W. (Stop and Worship) leads worship on Sunday nights for the Jr. High ComeUnity programming. There are no try outs because our purpose is to help students develop their musical gifts and work together as a team. There are many safety policies in place to help keep our students and sponsors safe. The adult sponsors do carry cell phones on all trips. In an emergency they will call the Crisis Management Team at TLCC so that parents can be notified. And if students need to call their parents, they are allowed to use our phones to do so at an appropriate time. We will also update the church office as we travel, to inform them when we arrive safely. If you want to see the full content of our safety manual, please feel free to ask for a copy from the office.
